From what I've heard. Complete hearsay though. None of my Z's have ever had built blocks, so what do I know? Maybe some of the more experienced engine guys can chime in, but I always thought of 88 as the "default" conservative bore for people going aftermarket pistons. I guess I agree with you that it's not going to amount to a large amount of performance either way, but I always figured I'd go 88 since it's more performance including low end/spool improvement for the same cost,without the risk and headaches of trying to go big with 89+
