Message	Auckland being New Zealands largest city which you'll probably touch down in from your international flight. Theres plenty to do in Auckland, and from there roadtrips along scenic coastal routes become a must. Depending on where abouts in NZ and what you enjoy doing -Popular attractions include bungy jumping, and nature walks, and yes you could visit hobbit town (The film set is still taking tours) Rotorua (Maori history + hot thermal / mud pools) in the North and Queenstown (Adreneline junkie and sceneic explorations) in the South would be good bases to stay and considered tourist hot spots.
