You can remove all the bits without hot tanking with a little work and patience... I removed all the bits with compressed air and a magnet on a flexible extension (apply air, fish out bits with the magnet, repeat). Then I temporarily connected the water pipes to the front of the engine (no thermostat, paper gaskets) and flushed, flushed, flushed.... PS. Make sure to loop the hardlines that feed the heater and the turbos at the back of the motor or ....
