I was hoping to drop my fully built motor in this weekend, at least for a fit check, if not final assembly(nothing is ever final on a z lol). Well, I had the turbos bolted up with all my an lines run perfectly, royalty locking nuts installed, bla bla bla. Basically everything from the fuel rail down was done. Well just going over a few things and I noticed the dip stick was stuck. Not the "hey the rubber is sticking" kind of stuck, the lead check line was caught inside the oil pan before it feeds through the tube. After 10 min of wiggling, pulling, yanking and anything else I could think of, I used some real force.... WELL, real force pulled the lead straight off the cable. Now I have to pull the pan... again... Anyone run into this issue before? I'm gonna find a new dipstick and a few other items, but this just bothers me and dont want it to happen again. I might end up shaving part of the dip stick to prevent this, and maybe countersink the opening while the pan is off. Also, if anyone has a spare passenger door rod(the one that attaches to the outside door handle please let me know(the one thats about 4 inches long), as it seems the garden gnomes stole mine. I've finally found rims that clear akebono brakes, too bad the 265 40 tires don't clear the kingpins, another setback that I"ll solve with 255 35's. My painter royally screwed up the z, paint is peeling and chipping, rocker panels missed completely, bugs in clear, and my door handles bind from the paint, though most of it has scrapped off from just pulling the handle. It looks like my z has gone from a super clean "home grown show car", to "f-it, drive it like its stolen"-mobile. All in all I'm pleased with only a few things, and the rest I'm pushing past until I hear it run again. Working in the garage alone, I just dont get anywhere near as much done without my buddy Tony. Its not that we even worked on the same car, we would each work on our own z's, but company made the work more enjoyable. Anyone in the Jacksonville nc area bored and want to nag me while I work? haha. I'm not sure if this is a complaint, or just me venting, I just wanna see what people are thinking.
