Message	knock (ie not in vacuum). From your symptoms, it sound like the sensitivity knob is too high. I tuned mine using headphones and listening for knock at a slightly elevated boost level. I don't have my manual with me, but there is a switch that switches it from closed loop control to monitor mode only.
