: SO heres the deal. i have a 94TT at stage IV. It has ~59K miles and runs great. The previous owner ran regular oil and so i continued using regular oil. I have been considering switching, but i have heard many horror stories of engines starting to leak after switching to synthetic. (not sure if this is just a myth) I do not want that to happen obviously to my Z. i change the oil about every 1000-1500 right now. It does not seem that i am burning any oil. i get about the same amount out of the engine as i put in. So, should i switch to synthetic on the next oil change? yes, switch to synthetic. To me, if my engine is about to leak, then let it leak so I can find out where the problem is and fix it the sooner the better. In addition, synthetic offers better protection against turbo engine's heat and lubrication. If I were you, I would take it to a shop/dealer to have them do the complete engine flush to clean out all the residues and build ups. What they do is to drain out your old oil and take out your filter. Then plug the hose to your filter housing and pump the cleaner into your engine and recircle out. If I remember right, they should have an fluid outlet thru draining plug. : Next issue is mid pipes/test pipes. I have stock pre-cats that have not been gutted. I do not want to spend the money to drop the tranny to install downpipes, and i have heard that gutting the precats while on the car is dangerous for the turbos. so if i want to keep the precats the way they are, would i benefit any HP from installing test pipes or mid pipes or would it not add any power? surely power will increase with 2 sticky restrictive main cats off the car. You will notice it. Wait till you do your tranny to save the labor to gut your precats. Erick
