Message Normal price is $40 a gallon for 10w30 and $19 for the filter, I am very happy with the way that Amsoil performs.
It's one of the very few true synthetics, most other "FULL synthetics" are just synthetic blends. Your advice is sound and I'll eventually come around to getting an analysis done, and possibly a compression test as well.

It's not all about wear protection and honestly even if it did have average wear protection, as long as it keeps it for the entire duration of it's guaranteed interval, it's doing it's job. Did you know most engine wear occurs at start up when there isn't any oil flowing through the engine? Did you know that over time the blow by gases that combine with the oil will make the oil acidic and did you also know that Amsoil has more ingredients that are meant to neutralize those acids than average-which allows for those extended drain intervals. I feel those acids have a greater impact on the lifespan of an engine than the cushion of oil which the bearings theoretically ride on without touching metal to metal.

I have personally noticed a few good things about Amsoil that other oils didn't do.

It has good film strength it is very durable, I can feel it still has decent viscosity and is still very slick (not gritty or thin) even after 10,000 miles of moderate driving. Right now I have about 8,800 on my current change and the oil pressure gauge stays at the same spot and still acts the same when it's freshly changed as it does now.

It doesn't burn off like other oils I've used before. I consume only a little more than 1 quart per oil change on my Z which is pretty good for a turbo motor. I have noticed a little bit of oil in my charge pipes which leads me to believe oil is being sucked out of the crankcase via the pcv system. Less than half a quart between changes on my Titan, although I only do less than 12,000 before the year is up, the engine has 170k on it (and I do tow). I never used anything but Amsoil since break-in (Regular Valvoline) on my R6 with 37,000 on it.... doesn't consume a single drop.

My dad had a Toyota Tercel that consumed oil like a two stroke, it was so bad that there was a point where he started using my used oil. He went from 1 quart a week to a little more than 1 quart every 2 weeks.

My current Z's engine has about 100k miles on it, if I can double that without catastrophic failure I'll be happy and I think Amsoil will help me get there just fine.

*disclaimer*: all that I say may be true or I may be completely wrong and I accept that.... please, it is your duty as another person on the internet to in-politely tell me how wrong I am :)
