Message Today I took the time to re-grease my rear wheel bearings along with brand new Timken seals. They were making quite a bit of noise so I made it a point to take them out and examine them to see if they needed replacing at all.

At first I had a lot of trouble removing the 36mm nut on the shaft. It was frozen and would not budge one bit. I don't think it has ever been touched since the day my car rolled off the assembly line. I sprayed it down with some WD-40 and used my trusty break bar. Still would not budge. So, I had to use a torch and heat it up. After a good 2 minutes or so of heat, it came right off.

I pull apart the assembly and look at the bearings to find out it was blackish-brown of what ever grease was in there. On the opposite side it was bone dry.

You could hear it rattling if you turned it by hand.

So I inspect all of the bearings to make sure they are smooth with no cracks, everything checked out OK.

Nice and cleaned up!

So, with some fresh new bearing grease, I apply it for both rear hubs and put it back on.

Now there is no more annoying noise after I get past 30MPH or so. Feels like it runs nice and smooth. Altogether, took me little over 4 hours to do.
