I believe the factory service manual calls them toe control links. That makes sense, without them every time you hit the brakes the front tires would go severely "toe out" as the lateral links would flex. Tension rod also makes sense though as when the brakes are applied that piece will take the load in tension instead of the lateral link getting bending stress.
