Message Alright first off I want to say I have searched already and all I have found is vagueness. Also I have a set of iron and a set of aluminum calipers. I know obviously the aluminum ones are lighter, so this would allow one to believe they would/should be more desirable than the iron calipers. I guess I still wonder why nissan switched to iron calipers. I have heard of people talking about the aluminum calipers and vagueness about warpage. Some say the calipers warp, some say the aluminum calipers warp the rotor, so I am not for sure what the "warpage" even means. If the aluminum calipers do indeed warp rotors that doesn't really make sense to me that nissan would change out the caliper to an iron unit? It seems like it would have been a better solution for them to change out the type of rotor.

Also from personal experience, now it has been awhile since ive drove a 300zx with iron calipers but from what I remember the steering wheel would never shake under any braking circumstance.

I have read on here that the rotor's warp under braking over 125 mph? With which caliper? Aluminum or iron or both? How can this be prevented? This information was left out.

Now the aluminum calipers that I currently have on the car SELDOM cause the steering wheel to shake under braking. I have noticed it is more common on extreme heat days and hard braking. I still have the same pads and rotors on the car that I bought the car with. This also brings me to another curiousity, how come braking with the aluminum calipers SELDOM cause the steering wheel to shake, it would seem that if their were any warpage it would always shake under braking or there would be some sort of a pattern. There is no pattern and it does not do it very often.

The other day I was browsing conceptzperformance's website and noticed they offer an aluminum piston "upgrade?" for the stock calipers. Does not specifiy which caliper this is for iron or aluminum? Is this truely an upgrade? Has anyone done this upgrade?

Do iron and aluminum calipers HAVE the same piston material?

I am considering this upgrade as in the near future I am going to have my calipers powdercoated and for powdercoating the caliper has to be dissassembled which would be a good time to upgrade if it is even worth it.

But first I have to decide which caliper to go with iron or aluminum. It would seem like the obvious choice would be aluminum but I wonder if I would never be able to get rid of the seldom steering wheel shake. Would the iron caliper's performance be worth it with the added weight?

I hope I do not get vague replies like the threads I have found through searching! I am mainly looking for experienced z people that track their z with stock brakes!
