I was originally considering 550's or 700s for street driving on pump gas. I wanted quick response, but I also wanted top end power potential. After doing a full engine build I decided it would be a waste to bolt up some little 550's...so I went gt3071's and couldn't be happier. So GLAD I didn't go with 550s. Bigger turbos, along with proper supporting mods, can make for excellent street cars! I was shocked at how fast the gt30s can spool with the breather mods. Granted they do lag as they are a larger turbo, they don't lag nearly as bad as I thought they would. Stock turbo and 550 cars have a little bit on my car down low, but not much (running stock cam helps a little here), and by 4k these turbos start working their magic and its z u later. If I had plans on only running a stock block and heads, I would then def go with the 550s or 700s as the stock block can handle the power. I have goals of eventually running Q16 tunes for the occasional run to the strip. Nonetheless, I love my set up for daily driving on pump gas. I would also wait for more results from the GTX platform, as these are very promising. The problem with upgrading turbos is that you get used to them very quickly and the car begins to feel slow again. The 550s will feel great at first, but may end up leaving you power hungry later. This is why I didn't go with the 550s, I knew they'd get boring really quickly. It's already happened with my set-up, 20psi feels slow now. But still a very fun street car :) just my .02
