Message There are a lot of things that hamper sound performance in our Z's. If you do not have any time alignment for each driver in your setup I recommend you place the drivers in a location where the difference in distance between the listener's position and both front speakers are minimized like the kick panels or even the stock speaker locations. Mounting the tweeters more than 12" away from it's mid-range counterpart can result in a non-focused stereo image. Basically all you hear are the tweeters blaring in your face and nothing else.

Having time alignment can open new possibilities for speaker location. But with great power comes great responsibility, knowledge, and the right diagnostic equipment to properly tune a system.

In my opinion rear fill should be applied with a minimalist approach. They should be just enough to enhance the front image but not to the point where it detracts your attention. Placing any speaker approximately 12" from you ears will cause problems for the rest of the system in a big hurry.

I have competed in stereo competitions over the years back when USAC and IASCA were popular names. I have personally attended (and competed) in the USAC finals and have learned what it really takes to create a good listening environment in a vehicle. Basically I know what I am talking about in my 22 years of experience.

The best advice for any system is to keep it simple, make small moves, test speaker locations before you make them permanent. Train your ears to some reference sound system, usually a high quality home system or headphones (no ear buds allowed).
