Some times they can be salvaged; sometimes not. I'd get a new shell. Give it a quick coat of paint. And begin immediately to reassemble a car from whatever parts and sources you have available. Get it running before you spend any more big bucks and/or decide what you want to do next. If you decide to keep it; move forward with a 'rolling restoration", not a full scale tear down build up.
It is easy to love a car that you can drive and is getting better everyday. It is not so easy love a pile of parts that is costing a you a lot of money.
