I was in midstate OR, in the middle of nowhere on I-5 (you OR people know where i'm talking about, mountainous mid to southern area with NO lights at night, and NO exits until you hit southern OR like Medford area. Blew a tire...dark as shit, dinky hand tools weren't doing it for me, and it was bloody cold, so I called "triple A" (long distance mind you, $1.75/minute calling from a Canadian area code), was put on hold without speaking to ANY rep for at least 15 minutes each time I called. Every so often, I got fed up, hung up, gave it another shot, got fed up, called, got put on hold by the computer, waited forever, got fed up etc...in and out...and then I proceeded to walk about one mile as I saw some city lights further down and lucky found a chevron. They had no tools (was hoping for a breaker bar), but they let me use their phone to call AAA as it wouldnt' be long distance. I didn't even get put on hold. Straight to the rep! Might be some priority issues when travelling abroad, or out of state, so if you can, use a payphone/gas station phone. Regardless, AAA paid me back (credit on next years membership) for my phone charges, but that hassle and sitting in the dark not knowing wtf to do paying $1.75/minute, 15 minutes at a time, was actually really annoying.
