Message In my opinion, the condition of the paint and the
condition of the interior tells what kind of owners
the car has had. There are people that will put
thousands of dollars into mods for the engine
and let the outside or interior chip, fade, peel, crack,
dry out, tear, or otherwise "age". If the same kind of
money was put into cosmetics, it would look like a
new car. If the car doesn't look great ( I mean great ),
I would steer clear of it no matter how many mods it has
( or how inexpensive it is). You can always repaint a car...but you can't easily undo the way the car was treated by the person(s) who let it get looking bad in the first place. Anyone who has owned a Z32 for a few years knows how expensive it can be to just maintain the condition...let alone improve it toward "newer" condition. You want a car that was loved...one that was washed, dried, waxed, polished, leather kept soft, no curb rash on the wheels, no peeling or fading paint, front fascia in excellent condition, etc. ( unless you just want to drag race ). A loved car is a great looking car...shiny, crisp, clean.
One not this way is a car that was used just for transportation, fast driving, or a wanna-be-restored someday that never got the money put into it. Along with appearance, there are things like noises, even tire wear, vibrations, steady idle, moulding condition, any electrical gremlins, leaks of any kind, smoke of any kind, spoiler alignment, how the oil looks on the dipstick, any moist black residue in the exhaust outlet, any rust, odd smells anywhere; in the carpet (heater core leak?). If it seems like this is being too picky...just make sure your Visa Card has a $15k credit line....because a unloved car will be eating into it.
