Message Hey All,

members servoc and ConVerTT wanted to know how this went...

1) Zthirtytwo double DIN panel.

Nice part, OE fitment. Finish is a bit different than stock, however I've ordered replacement Nissan gauge pods that were different finish than the original. Kinda satin finish compared to the darker gloss finish of the OE plastic. Not a big issue.

Have to transfer over all your venting, clips and clock to the new panel. They have moulded standoffs for the screws, all lines up. However, the clock screws are larger than the vent screws. On my panel, all the standoffs were moulded/drilled for smaller screws. Of course, did I check first, hells no:

Broke the standoffs seating the screws in. Both sides, of course. This pic is one of my successive JB Weld build ups on the shattered plastic. Got them repaired, took a couple of hours. Also, the vent screws bottom out before the vent is tight. I trimmed off the last 1/8" of each small screw so they would seat. My recommendation: find smaller screws for clock mounting.

Got that done. 2nd problem:

The opening for the HU is extremely tight. Good for a non-motorized unit. It bound the screen from changing angle. I re-mounted the DIN brackets, attempted to shift the bezel (almost impossible, as fitment is tight)... so I busted out the dremel and removed 1/16" on the top of the opening so the screen could move through different angle settings. Time and patience, not to mention a small file to straighten the cut as best I could. Again, not a big deal with the right tools.

2) Kenwood DNX7190 install.

Nice unit, a bit different than my older 8120 in my Frontier. Menus are still slow on startup, but seem to speed up once the unit is running. Biggest test I wanted to try was successive angles of the screen:

Angle 0 flush to the HU... OK, but just down a bit

Angle 1 raised a bit, bottom gap shows, but best overall for viewing

Angle 2 raised too much, washed out. looks goofy.

CD/DVD Eject Angle... needed to trim the bezel to allow this

Angle 1 basic NAV view

Centre View

Final thoughts:

The unit is fine, does decent audio, Garmin Nav, DVD, iPod, video in, Bluetooth phone is good.

Don't like the fact it sticks out 1/2 inch from the bezel. I will attempt to correct this. From driving around in the sun today, I think if it was recessed back into the bezel it would shade the display better. There were two plastic mounts supplied with the Zthirtytwo panel, I will see if using these over the stock Al mounts move the HU mounting back. I found them in the box as I was putting the original bezel in it for storage.

Experimentation continues...
