Message As I get more involved in the automotive world outside of the Z32, more and more I wonder why an efan doesn't work. Every car meet I go to people ask me why I am still running a mechanical fan. This isn't just ricer boys either.
There are seriously powerful sportscars out there that use electric fans and have no trouble. The new Konigsegg makes 1200HP and uses an efan setup and survives in the middle east. They just had to design the system to work within the requirements. I have heard that the stock clutch fan puts out an immense amount of airflow, more than any available efan, is this frue? People say that efans are not reliable, but if that was the case, how can fwd cars exist?
I have worked on a few Zs that had efans, and it makes it much easier to work on. They also make the engine bay much cleaner in my opinion. Options like Ash's efan setup and BDE's electric pump adapter are very tempting to me for cleaning up/uncluttering the engine bay, but I have stayed away because all the loder/wiser members shun them. Sure, back in the day they may have been unreliable, but things change. I'm glad that Ash is doing cooling testing, and I hope that he extends it to comparisond between efans and stock clutch fan, because I'd sure like to clean up my engine bay.
