Its a Saturday morning class here in Fla to get concealed permit. There is no real safety or gun use taught. The one I attended required you to shoot a 22 in an environment that was hardly helpful to new shooters. Its basically a 'sit there for 4 hours and get a paper' checklist.
I think putting more guns in hands only works if those hands are responsible and trained.
