Message	Dunno about you, but most people shopping in the $30k+ range are not interested in base models. Base model sales are for fleet purchasers and sub-$30k cars. Basically people who dont have a ton of money to spend but want a car that will make it look as if they do, so they get in at the base model thinking no one will really notice.
