I am restoring a car to drive around, and recently did two things at once: - gutted precats - replaced bad oxygen sensors with new Bosch The car got richer in a very similar/same way as what you mention. However, I can't tell which change did it. I lost about 2mpg on the highway, and my tips are a bit blackened, whereas they weren't before. Def got richer. This at least supports that gutted precats *might* really make it richer.
