Message :When changing over from R12 to R134a, a less efficient refrigerant, would it be beneficial to tweak the A/C pump pulley size much like what is done for the water pump pulley?

Nope. And I wouldn't describe R-134a as less efficient. A properly set up R-134a system will cool every bit as well as a R-12 system.

The TSV valve is calibrated for R-12, and the earlier condenser is a less efficient serpentine type, while the late R-12 and all R-134a systems used the superior parallel flow type.

A TSV equipped system will cool reasonably well. Some gut the TSV, which causes the system to work too well, resulting in occasional evaporator freeze up. The R-134a systems in the Z32 does away with the TSV and instead use a thermo control amp to prevent evaporator freeze up.

I don't know much of anything about how A/C units work to know any better, but I would think that running it a bit faster might help make up for the less efficient refrigerant. Am I crazy, or is there something here worth considering?

You're crazy :) The problem isn't insufficient refrigerant flow.
