| I have a lot of people to thank for helping with this "gift". Two miles aways from Fontana Village on Thursday afternoon my timing belt started making a high shrill noise. I started looking for the first place to pull over and just when I am about to shut the motor off it dies. Brian Taylor and Chris were the first to pull up, we lifted the hood and see shards of timing belt material in the engine bay...not looking good. I am not feeling good at this point but trying to stay positive. The whole crew from Chattanooga showed up soon along with Sawbonez and Gene. We loaded my Z on a trailer and pulled it to the cabin. We'll look at it tomorrow. Heath Autry wakes up and immediately starts the teardown. We run the Z on ramps that Brian brought, captured the coolant in pots and pans (always wash the pots, pans, and dishes before you use them). I went to the Z1 tent and Russell had a belt put on their truck coming up that afternoon. George Aslinger had all the necessary tools for the job except, you guessed it ... crank bolt socket. Well Mitch Bryant goes to work running all over the resort looking for one. Seems the common response was "if your timing belt is gone, your not driving that Z home". Well it just so happens Sawbonez brought one. Tim, I never did hear why you had that set of sockets with you but I am thankful you did. Anyway back to the teardown, we found the bolt and washer for the pivot on the tensioner pulley had backed out. That was the culprit. I heard several respected Z mechanics comment that was not an item they would think to check. An OEM part comes assembled and ready to install. Tim Davis said he has seen loose pivot bolts out of the OEM box for over a year now. Al at Z1 confirmed the belt was on the way and then went out of his way to find some RTV. But now we realize without an impact gun George is not having much luck getting the crank pulley removed. Silvertwin and Nissanguyz32 figured something out and wahoo! the pulley and spocket is off. Wait... the belt sprocket is damaged also. Now it's kinda late in the day to get one of those ordered. We heard a few naysayers comment "that Z is not driving out of here on its own power" and understandably so. The belt is still in one piece but in really bad shape and the engine did die bufore I could turn it off. But I am still staying positive, this things gonna crank and run. Anyway TTZedhead to the rescue again. He just happens to remember there is a certain VG30dett cutaway on display and Russell was gald to help out again. George now has all the pieces to put the front end back on. She cranks right up and runs perfect. To top it all off Justin Baier fixes my Autometer Nexus gauges. I am truly thankful to everyone who helped out and had a hand in making this happen. The best part was experiencing all the help and support from great bunch of guys and you too Lindsey. Cheers!
