Message Roller dynos actually measure torque calculated by how quickly a known moment of inertia can be accelerated and then using a sensor to measure engine rpm, it uses the tq*rpm/5252= hp formula to back out engine hp. Therefore if there is a sensor to measure rpm (normally placed on a spark plug lead) the gear that the car is in shouldn't matter.
