| DiElectric grease solidifies and shrinks over time. Also, the contacts are the main focus but the failure point is the entire connector itself. DiElectric grease wont hurt anything and does not hinder the electrical connection so it only makes sense to fill it up and allow excess to squeeze around the sides allowing you to simply wipe it off and keep the most moisture out. I could be wrong, though the write-up here says otherwise.
