Message Thought I might pass along a warning for those of you with high mileage Zs running original injectors.

I had an injector in my 95 TT disintegrate on me last month about a mile from home. It initially had barely perceptible stumble, but then started pouring smoke from passenger exhaust. I turned around and limped it home, and could tell I was missing one cylinder with slightly rough idle. I parked it, jumped in other car and headed off to meet friends; planning to make a quick evening so I could get back home and try to do whatever diagnosis I could. However, when I got home I found engine was seized and making the most horrible metal on metal sound I ever heard as soon as I hit the starter. At that point, there was not much for me to do but send it down to Doug at Awesome Z, thinking I might be buying a longblock from Kyle.

Doug found the #1 injector had disintegrated, was pouring gas into the intake, and had hydrolocked the engine. The horrendous metal on metal sound was starter hitting and failing to engage flywheel. These were the original injectors now 17 years old with 220K mi; and by my rough estimate, each one has cycled more than 125 million times.

I considered swapping them for the Nismo 615s in October when installing the Sport500 turbos because I was concerned about being too lean. Dyno run showed A/F was OK, so I didn't; but I never gave any thought to them failing in open state where they would flood the intake. I was really fortunate that it failed so close to home so I didn't do more damage. Awesome Z also did a great job in doing everything necessary in the diagnostic and repair process to prevent any additional damage from diluted oil. I now have the new 615cc injectors installed and it's all good again.
