Message Up to this point, I have not been involved. As a general rule my schedule and responsibilities in regards to managing parts development, purchasing, marketing, & sales, which is 95% of Z1's business, simply prohibits me from being involved in matters related to work being performed in our shop. John is often unavailable for phone calls because he is with customers, working with techs, tuning on the dyno, or out test driving cars. We do have Farrin here at ext 300 that is helping with shop related communications. I realize we still have work to do in regards to my expected levels of communication with customers who have their cars here. We have been working and succeeding at solving communication issues in regards to our parts department and service is next on our list. For what it is worth, I can be reached here at ext 301 or russell@300zx.com. I will also be calling Mr. Brigham tomorrow.

In regards to the $22k spent, with Mr. Brigham's permission, I would like to post a list of what all that included so that there are no more accusations of price gouging.

On the subject of the problems with the car, I can guarantee that the parts and services Mr. Brigham paid for were properly delivered. I am told that the transport truck arrived to pick up the car early without notice and that despite our recommendations, Mr. Brigham declined having the car tuned or even dynoed. John put it on the dyno anyway at no cost because it is essential that we at least verify A/F ratios. The car left Z1 on a transport carrier running properly with the good used engine that was paid for. We recommend that cars are picked up in person so that customers can look over, drive, and test the car to their satisfaction. Due to the nature of what we do, we plainly state that we do not offer any guarantees after that. Upon return of the car to Z1 we discovered low compression in cylinders 4 & 6. It's obvious that the ring lands of the stock pistons were cracked due to detonation. This could be the result of over-boosting, poor fuel quality, or several other factors. However it is indisputable that the car did not leave Z1 with this problem and we clearly offer no warranties or guarantees against this kind of engine damage that is completely out of our control after the customer receives the car. Here is a link to our service contract that every customer is encouraged to carefully read and must sign before any work can begin. Z1 Service Contract

Last week, because of the unfortunate nature of these circumstances, John sent Mr. Brigham a quote for repairing the engine at roughly half the normal price. He has been asked to come in to pick-up the car in person and to verify total satisfaction. John will be working with Mr. Brigham to take steps to make sure he understands how to prevent and notice detonation before it causes any future engine damage.
