I THINK Seedy had also done something like an amp rack or something. As for the resin, I've read that a lot of people choose to use a 2 part surfboard resin since it has UV protection built it. If I was doing this for my first time, besides gloves, I'd apply the resin diagonally with a brush (like grouting tile work) so the resin gets all the way through.
