the 1st gen fieros were a direct rip of the Fiat X1/9:
1984 Fiero:
Fiat X1/9 Bertone: (1972-82... later by Bertone)
2 seat, mid engine 4. Nothing original or daring from Pontiac on this one. 2nd gen (from your post) got a bit more interesting.
Although, I agree, there is a bit of a design similarity between that and the Z32 on the rear light panel layout.
