And I'm an amateur, but you want enough volume and a compressor that had enough CFM for hvlp purposes. This will keep the compressor from running all the time. When it runs, it can build moisture in the tank... Not good for painting. I forget the recommended CFM for most setups to paint with, but do some research. I painted with one just shy of the right CFM but it was fine, just let it fill prior and always bled it before painting too. There are dryers that can be put in the line, and also running extra line can keep moisture out.
