Message	My 2002 Protege which I have owned since new has solid lifters and I haven't noticed any wear issues. That's after 287000 kms (178000 miles) of driving. I've checked clearances and haven't had to change shims yet either. The driveability is probably determined more by the cam profile than the lifters.
