| They offer a way for the affluent who have been programmed to be collectivists, and subconsciously guilty for their affluence, to become part of a phony movement to "save the planet". What could be more gratifying to these people, than to not only to save the planet and therefore everyone on it, but to also do it in a way that doesn't give them too much individual credit because it can ONLY be done via a collective effort.
