Message On a V design engine, it is important to equalize the pressure in the two sides of the exhaust or you loose mid RPM power.
The H pipe offers the pressure equalization, but the pipe going straight across causes turbulence that hurts flow, this does quiet sound, but very little.
The X pipe that is made correctly offers pressure equalization, improves flow by increasing area, and each side helps the other side pull air through the X.
The X offers the most power.
The only reason we make a H pipe is because it allows us to use a larger diameter resonator for those that want a quieter exhaust.
Neither a X pipe or a H pipe causes rasp, in a system that has rasp, a H pipe can make a slight difference in reducing rasp because of the turbulence the pipe going across creates.
Most of the sound level is controlled by the muffler size/ type and pipe diameter. Adding bends to the system reduces sound, but decreases flow.
Adding resonators or mufflers sooner in the system will allow them to reduce sound the most.
Larger diameter resonators/mufflers reduce sound.
The type of core used and the packing in the mufflers or resonators will effect sound level and tone.
