Message Even when brand new you'll notice this on many cars. Its because the bumpers are painted separately before being installed on the vehicle. Metallics and 3-stage paints are very sensitive to the angle at which the particles are laid down, and will look different at different angles. This is why they look different but "sortof blend together" depending on how you look at them...angle, distance, lighting. Solid colors are much less sensitive to this phenomenon and should look much closer. The only difference should be in presence or absence of flex agent which can create very slight variations. If its a solid color and looks drastically different I might question, but otherwise its very plausible. Look for other clues of repaint, such as "trash", fisheyes, or d/a marks in the paint, tape lines, etc.

Keep in mind that its even possible for parts to have been repainted even before or just after getting to the dealer (due to imperfections or minor mishaps) without owner knowledge. Just be sure it was not due to significant collision damage if you're looking to purchase. However, if you're just trying to prove somebody wrong, then get a life :-P
