Message Factories have been using urethanes for at least 20 years now (yes, even in 90's Nissans), and all respectable shops are using polyurethanes (unless its a restoration). Even catalyzed acrylic enamels are all but extinct (they probably still use em for low end jobs at Maaco). Lacquer will set you back significantly more than anything else due to higher costs for both materials and labor, and it doesnt weather as well. Only ones still spraying lacquer are restoration shops-- even NCRS (Corvette)restoration rules have changed to allow for the use of urethanes.

By the way, polyurethanes are a little more durable, but still subject to the stresses of weather. Still must be waxed regularly and kept out of the sun or they will fade and have cracking of the clear coat.
