Message I know the outside air temperature has an effect on the performance of the engine, especially with a turbo. I’ve noticed that power is increased when cold dense air is shoved into the cylinders, to the point that with all stock equipment and with the outside temperature well below freezing, it is easy to lose tire traction in steady acceleration in the first two gears. This brings me to boost: I never paid too close attention to boost pressure before I upgraded the exhaust, intake-filter and intercoolers (no ECU upgrade). Now, assuming that my stock boost gauge is correct (I know – don’t assume), there is a mark on the gauge labeled 14 psi. And, between 0 and 14 psi there are three intermediate marks. I assume (again) that the middle mark is 7 psi and the mark between 7 and 14 psi is 10.5 psi. When the air is warm, the boost pressure peaks on the 7 psi line. When it is cold the boost increases to maybe about 11 psi. When coasting and in gear the gauge shows about -13 psi. Does this all seem normal?
