| and then dangling the carrot of a $5 million bonus if he won the race. He had already moved up 10 spots when the crash occurred...and you know he was pushing the envelope to get through the field. Of course the crash wasn't his fault...its the totality of the circumstances that angers me. Small oval + large group of "open wheel" cars = recipe for disaster. The saddest part is the family he left behind... I'm 33 years old...and my two daughters are almost exactly the same age as his two kids. The thought of leaving them behind without a father...physically makes me sick. The fact that this tragedy could have been prevented if the governing body had used some stinking common sense...leaves me stewing in a pit of anger. Dan Wheldon was a breath of fresh air compared to the majority of dull/robotic drivers out there. He was a true racing enthusiast and gifted driver. He will be missed.
