| Not that this makes any difference, but i'd like to get the opinion of some people on here just to satisfy my own curiosity. I recently had a bit of a disagreement as to what the right thing to do in this situation The story: I needed a 2 seater NA hatch for my twin turbo since my hatch was dented and it was cheaper just to get another hatch and have it painted. My 'friend' had a parts car and told me he had a black NA hatch with shitty paint, but it was in good shape and would be a suitable replacement hatch. He needed test pipes and downpipes so being the nice guy i am i traded him straight up for his hatch. He told me it had a slight dent on it, but other than that it was in good shape. I traded him Specialty Z 2.5" non resonated stainless steel test pipes for the hatch. I also had some kind of rusty 2.5" SZ supersplits which i basically just GAVE to him because they were aluminized and were a little rusty. I do not have an suv or pickup so i had to borrow a friends truck to go pickup the hatch about 30 miles away. I picked up the hatch at night and it seemed to be in decent shape, i saw the dent but other than that it seemed ok, but it was hard to tell because the paint was kind of flat, and it was dark. I gave him the test pipes and downpipes and took the hatch and a few weeks later (yesterday) i brought it over to the body shop (after borrowing yet ANOTHER friends truck to get it there). The owner of the body shop went over the hatch with me and made me aware that there were actually quite a few small dents all over the hatch. So it was basically worthless and he said i should get another hatch. However, not having a way of getting another hatch, nor having another time i said he should just fix it. He said he would PDR it instead of bondo and then paint it, but it would cost me about 300 dollars in labor to have it fixed. Having realized that my already unfair trade had turned out to be a totally bad deal for me, i contacted my friend and explained the situation. He said if i wanted we could 'trade back.' he seemed totally surprised and said that i should have inspected the hatch further and that its my own fault. (an answer i'd expect from a random person on craigslist... not a friend). He said we could trade back. I explained that i had already had them start fixing the hatch and i had no way of getting him the hatch without a truck. so i could either buy him another hatch (that wasn't dented) and trade back. He said 'no, it has to be that exact hatch... and starts talking about 'principles of trading' I ask him what he would have sold the hatch for if he just sold it straight up. He said '80' So i offer to give him 80 (despite this piece of crap not even being worth 80) to effectively BUY the hatch and then have him give me my parts back. He says no, either i give him that specific hatch back, or no deal. So i say 'ok keep the downpipes, i'll give you 80 dollars, to 'buy' the hatch just give me back my test pipes because its apparent that i really got screwed in this deal. 'no, full trade back or no deal'. He knows its impossible for me to give him that hatch, and despite my offering to buy the hatch for more than its worth, or replace it with a better condition hatch, he still refuses. I think i'm being pretty reasonable, and considering the circumstances what i'm asking for really isn't that unfair. This is behavior i'd expect from a random craigslist person, not a friend. So i ask, am being unreasonable with my request, assuming this is a friend and local Z club member? (btw these parts are NOT installed on his car)
