Message they're talking 40 or 50 miles down the way. The purpose of the TPMS is to let you know you have a flat, otherwise you'd continue driving until the tire wears out. That kind of blows a hole in what you were told. Perhaps the tire wasn't a run-flat? Or they were trying to weasel out of responsibility for a destroyed wheel.
