Message When you make a product and don't exercise your right to protect it with a patent, you are effectively entering your design into the public domain for anyone in the world to use. A patent effectively grants a monopoly to the holder for a limited amount of time, giving an incentive to the patent holder for creating their work.

The problem is that the cost of filing and obtaining a patent prevents small innovators like this from being able to protect their inventions. They instead have to rely on being first to market, and try to maximize their return before the competition reverse-engineers their design. Quality, support, reliability, etc. are unfortunately secondary considerations for consumers in this market.

While what Vuk is doing may not be ethical, its perfectly legal and, for better or worse, is a core foundation of our system of intellectual property. Many vendors in this market take the high road and at least try to improve upon a design, whereas Vuk simply copies them outright.
