Message At standard spring height there is ~120lbs of spring tension on a stock spring. A JWT high-tension spring is 160lbs at the same length. I weigh 155lbs when I get out of the pool and it requires even more compression to get the keepers to seat. Hypothetically, if the tool could maintain its position and I were to stand on it, I still wouldn't generate enough pressure to release the keepers or install them.

I've been using a tool I got from the Snap-On guy back in 2003 which is similar to this one. One main difference is that it is designed to be struck by a mallet to generate the force necessary to compress the spring enough to remove or install the keepers.

The head in the video is NOT a head from a performance engine.

Even still, the process using the tool I have requires some practice to develop the technique, especially for installing the keepers. In fact, I dont even use it to remove the keepers; I use a 14mm deep well socket on a 6" extension, place the socket over the spring cap and strike the extension with a mallet. If you hit the keepers with brake parts cleaner first, it removes the oil film that holds the keepers in place to the valve stem and makes the process usually a one-shot deal.

This commercial reminds me of those that show how incredibly easy it is to remove the yellow haze from your vehicle's plastic lenses on the headlamps. They make it look so easy and effective. The reality is that the process is far more involved if you aren't using a brand new headlamp that has been hazed over with some contaminant that looks like years of oxidation that simply would wipe off with nothing more than a terry cloth..... or that roof sealant product they sell for $20 for two cans that is demonstrated to seal a porch screened boat.... pfft.. you can buy rubberized undercoating from AutoZone or Discount for just a few bucks a can.... it is the same exact product they tell you to call now to get and the'll throw in an extra for free. If it were that good, why are you giving it away? Even David Blaine can make you think levitation is possible if you believe the crap you see on the idiot tube.

Dare I say? If it looks too good to be true......
