Message but as far as variants it would have more to do with the particular refinery it came from vs. each brand owning their own refineries, and various brands do purchase barrels from the same refineries. I guess my intended message was regarding additives and I attribute that to part of the refining process, however technically incorrect it is. I think of refining as whatever happens before it hits my tank.

Read this Top Tier Gas list if you want to see the brands that exceed top tier expectations. Notice, no BP. I urge most people to test the different brands for themselves. I've always gotten better gas mileage with Shell, and I read a report a few years back regarding the consistency of fuel brands across the country and Shell was the most consistent in their additives and ethonol level. The study indicated Shell never broke the 10% ethanol limit (the limit at the time of the study), although every other fuel brand tested had refueling stations dispensing fuels that exceeded the limit.

I apologize for the lack of credibility, I don't have the ability to search for the article presently.
