Mechanical gauges react faster and are more accurate and are generally 270 degree sweep but, in the case of oil pressure for example, there is high pressure oil going to the back of the gauge. For temperature, there is a bourden (sp?) tube permanently attached to the back of the gauge on one end and the sending unit on the other. This means that the sending unit must be passed through the firewall which means a hole in the firewall large enough to accomodate it. Also, running the bourden tube is a PITA. The gauges I'm going to use are: 100PSI mech. oil pressure (with braided stainless steel lines) Electrical water temp Voltmeter Check these out: [ http://www.isspro.com/EnhancedVisibilityCatalog.html ] or [ http://www.egauges.com/vdo_grou.asp?Series=Vision ] or [ http://www.autometer.com/hp/2001_catalog/competition/44.html ] Let me know if you need more info. I'm trying to figure out where to put the temp sending unit without drilling a hole into something.
