Message First off, asking about wax is like asking "what color should I paint my calipers", it's all about personal preference.

First off, some sites for great info and products.

This will give you an idea of what's out there. If you are inexperienced and by your question, I will assume you are, you'll want to keep things as basic as possible. Read about "how to clay bar a car"... good example here.

1. Wash car with something like Dawn to remove old waxes, etc.
2. Use something like WD-40 and a soft rag to remove tar and other difficult to remove grime.
3. Clay bar.
4. Rewash with Dawn.
5. (keeping it simple) apply preferred wax.

Some people use Meguiars NXT(synthetic) but recently I've found and used their Ultimate (also synthetic) on a friends truck and it was great. Easy on and off. [ http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+G18216 ]

Don't be lazy and use the same wash mitt for your wheels as you do your paint.

All in all, wax products really are a personal preference. I've been really happy with Zaino.
