Message posted this the other day ...looks like it gathered healthy discussion ...so I took Ash and Ztunerz's advice and did a boost leak test ..guess what ? o-ring on the Border fuel rails are leaking .. not sure if this is the 'cause' of the lean condition at high RPM / high boost .. will know in a week or so ... just wanted to share the facts. Now to the reason for the post -

Recently had some work done at BAM Automotive that was a little beyond my scope.

Tony did excellent work -- took total care of my Z and fixed several big and small issues that has been nagging at me for a few years. Highly recommend to anyone in the Philly tri-state area ( from mild to wild - he can handle it ).

list (that I remember):
motor pull
pull turbos ~ reason I tackled the job ~
install clutch / exhaust / etc
fixed water injection
fixed numerous oil leaks
replaced battery harness and tranny harness ( Thanks Bernie )
redo fuel system (conventional vs dual lines to each fuel rail)
replaced numerous lines that were old / brittle
install oil catch can
replace and realign driver side headlight
repair busted driver’s seat
replaced timing belt, altenator belt, power steering belt and all adjusters

..basically -- I had alot of odds an ends

As you can tell, there were a few things that needed to be done.

I had a compressor leak on the driver side turbo. This was the impetus of getting all this work done. Russell at Z1 motorsports took my GT28RS turbos and modified my housing ( these turbos were one of the first ones ever produced before the 700BB turbo was popular they were not clocked as the GT28RS / JWT 700BB are today - also mine are extrude honed by Chip at GMS motorsports -).

Z1 also fixed the driver side compressor leak that I had. While I was there , I decided to replace the CHRA sections -so basically I had new turbos.

Russell stated that I had a lot of burnt oil on my turbos which I attributed to the build Ash put together for me about 5 years ago. He plugged off the PCV areas and ran the vent tubes ( see oil catch can pics below ) into the accordian pipe which leads to the turbo. So whenever I had positive crank case pressure - the oil went into the turbo.

I wish I took pics of the final product because the work that Z1 did was top notch and I was very pleased with turn around time frame and quality of the work completed. Actually, they should advertise doing turbo rebuilds as the final product was pretty good and cheaper than buying new BB turbos.

Another item that has been nagging me for a few years is that I needed a clutch before I hit the dyno and my 3 inch exhaust was not 100% stainless. SZ to the rescue !!

I spoke to Greg / Seb and ordered the new SZ 5 puck clutch ( and it's probably the best clutch I have driven on that is closest to stock ) and I ordered a brand new shiny full stainless 3 inch exhaust. Additionally, I was able to sell my aluminized 3 inch exhaust for a decent penny to offset the cost. I also sent my RPS segmented flywheel back to SZ for new metal pucks and the total turnaround timeframe was pretty quick - you know the "typical" SZ quality and work ethic !!

sorry again - only a few pics ... I wish I took decent pictures of the exhaust because it was a beauty.

I've had a stash of parts / misc items to install / replace. I got rid of my Ash Spec water injection that was installed 5 years ago for a simplier setup with Snow Performance water injection ( from Z1 ). Installed a driver side headlight as I carelessly 1 day 2 years ago I leaned on the headlight and crack a tab on the upper left. Also got my BDE motor mounts and MS turbo inlet pipes installed that have been collecting dust.

Anyway --here are a few random pics of everything --

very smooth to go with my extrude honed turbos. I noticed an immediate difference with throttle response and boost response with these bad boys !!

with my Abeler manifolds .. the MS Inlet pipes would not have cleared without these

Nice new SS lines from Z1 / EGT line in the turbo / and SS lutch line

all these fuel lines were cleaned up and simplified when the plenum was off. Now looks like the OEM serial setup and my EGTs are the same on both turbos from equal fuel pressure on both sides of the rails.

I got 5 years out of this w/no slipping !!

Starting to go back together ..shiny 3 inch exhaust from SZ

I got this oil catch can off of ebay. It takes 2 lines which is great for our Twin Turbo setups.

Oil catch can installed. You can’t see the site glass in the pictures ..but it’s there.

Ash Spec / Z1 Water Injection ( original setup 5 years old ) things have changed since then - Out with the old …

Snow Performance water injection setup from Z1 - In with the new –
I used the OEM tank setup I already had and ran the Snow Vinyl tubing from the pump to the dual nozzle T that goes to each inlet pipe before the throttle bodies. So essentially, I got rid of the Shurflo pump, all the plumbing ( accumulator , pressure solenoid, etc ) and aqua mist jets.

Finally done !!! I removed my Carbing strut tower bar (for sale in classifieds). I found that the strut tower bar below to be stiffer / beefier / and the Z rolled less from side to side in fast back to back sweepers. It doesn't look as nice - but it's more functional for my tastes.

DVD burn to the rescue ::

I recently has an ECU issue where my #4 injector wasn't firing. Had to take my ECU to Gary and he diagnosed that my ECU board was degrading. He later moved my Nistune board to another ECU that I bought used from Glen McCall.

Additionally - Gary modified my OEM pods with LED lights ( $50 shipped - shameless plug )

these look so good --I am considering redoing the dash with the led lights.

also went to Napa and for $30 bucks --- got a universal high and low horn to replace the crappy OEM horns that sound like I have short man complex ..funny, when I was buying these I felt like I was ordering viagra

And I finally installed some new carbon fiber door sills I got from the Matt Janzen from Rev Import and Performance.

Compliments CF accents below

...ohh -- and I clicked 200K recently !!!

..now getting ready for tuning by Ztunerz !!!

Big thanks to BAM automotive / Z1 Motosports ( Russell / Josh / Bryan ) / SZ ( Greg / Seb )
And a thanks to DVD Burn and Bernie (for misc items sourced through him that I could not easily find ~ tranny harness for example )
