Message Thanks. It's a very fun car to drive. I wanted a fast spooling Z so stock turbos & a light weight drive train were the original plan (SZ High 5 clutch, RPS FW, UR UD Pulley, Z1 Aluminum drive shaft). With the results of the other upgrades, now referred to as breather mods (2.5" IC piping, Larger IC, larger TB, MS Manifolds) when builds were first happening, I was sold. Ash made some convincing presentation with his original findings on the 2.5" intercooler pipe. I really like how has presents technical data as well, he is a very smart fella. I was waiting for his pipes, but the time came to upgrade & they weren't available so I made my own. I have not installed his kit yet, but I have seen them in person in & out of the car. It's a very well done kit.
I wanted a "lagless" turbo Z, which is pretty much what I have. My power & torque curve are very far to the left. The only Z that I have seen spool faster is Ash's personal, which has a much lighter rotation assembly (completely build long block) & everything everything else that I have. A goal was 300hp by 3,000rpm. Pretty damn close to impossible, but then again everyone said that 500whp on stock turbos was "impossible"...
I wanted to and expected to break Mike Homers stock turbo record, but I didn't expect it do make as much HP as it did. The first drive on Q16 was ridiculous! By By tires :) Greg Dupree @ SZ spent a good day with the tune on their in-house dyno. Having a great tune from an experienced & knowledgeable tuner can make all the difference in the world. But I think most of us know that since Greg & Seb have been flying all over doing tunes.
I think there is still a little more to be squeezed out of it as well. I plan to do cams with P&P on the heads, more work on the intake plenum, with better gasket matching, larger TB, maybe a CF drive shaft, time spent on adjusting all of the cams (thanks BDE), install turbo inlets (I'm still on stock, but the other 2 pipes are custom made by me), a re-tune from SZ & maybe a few other little tricks that I know of ;)
I really need to learn to drive the power that I have before I go bigger with the turbos. 700whp is more difficult than 500whp. I made have made some good 1/4 mile times (11.7et, 1.5 60'), but I'm not consistent & there are certainly better drivers out there (check out Seb's 10.xx on SP500!). I'm trying to brake Mike Homers 1/4 mile time, but he is a much better racer than I am & I think his car is a little bit lighter as well.
One day I will upgrade turbo. I'm not sure to what yet, but JWT SP700 are a well matched turbo for the VG, on paper & in the real world.
My profile should be up to date. & there is an article about in the SZ blog. Give Greg & Seb a call to get setup up with a similar build for those that are interested. Also view my post history to see "some" of my custom work.
