The following is from the Nissan VG30 Service Manual which can be downloaded for free at the following url: [ http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi ]The procedure is as follows: (reference page EM-23 thru EM-25) 1. Install the accel-drum unit and throttle chambers (RH & LH) When tightening the bolts, free accel-drum unit so that drum unit is left under its own weight. Do NOT apply external force to accel-drum unit. 2. Before installing each throttle chamber, confirm that stopper-wire is installed in hole of rod pin. If not, install suitable wire. 3. Pull out stopper wire of RH Throttle chamber in order to secure RH joint lever. 4. Loosen LH throttle chamber lock nut and back off adjusting screw until there is cllearance between the screw and joint lever. 5. Set dial guage on joint lever and zero. Confirm that the bottom end of adjusting screw is not in contact with joint lever of accelerator drum unit. 6. Pull out LH throttle chamber stopper wire from rod pin. 7. Turn adjusting screw until dial guage is within range: 0.0028" - 0.0051" (0.07mm - 0.13mm) Tighten Lock-nut. 8. Confirm that the dial guage is still within range in Step 7. Steps I add: 9. Depress accelerator pedal to floor and block throttle to WOT. 10. Verify throttle chambers are fully open using angle gauge. 11. Turn adjusting screws as required to obtain WOT for LH & RH throttle chambers. Verify chambers have NOT over-centered (past WOT). 11. Remove Pedal block, to return throttle chamber setting back to idle (closed). 12. Verify throttle chambers are equally closed using angle gauge &/or feeler gauge(s). 13. Measure throttle chamber cable travel from closed to WOT. 14. Set throttle to 1/2 of full travel using suitable tool to lock throttle cable (without damaging cable). Measure LH & RH throttle chamber openings using Angle Guage. 15. Verify openings and readjust if required. Note: it may be required to loosen and adjust throttle chambers and / or accel-drum unit, and / or Throttle arms to accel drum unit to accomplish syncronization. (Repeat above steps as required to syncronize throttle chambers throughout entire travel.) Finally, you should check that the throttle chambers are syncronized using the above proceedure whenever: Throttle chambers / accel-drum unit are removed. Engine is removed. Upper Plenum is removed. Cruise control and / or cables replaced. Hopefully the above proceedure "de-mystifys" how to properly adjust the throttle chambers for smooth maximum power output. To ensure the settings remain as adjusted, ensure all of the threaded connections are clean, and place a drop of Blue Locktite on the adjustment threads. I also keep an eye on the throttle chamber springs, keeping them clean and rust free by periodicly applying a light oil on the springs. Notice there is nothing in the above proceedure that involves filing or grinding...
