If you need a larger diameter or thicker walled tube here, thats reasonable, but a solid bar doesn't make sense from a strength to weight perspective. given how many of these bars are in use and that yours is the only known failure, it stands to reason that you just got an unusually weak unit, or that your car/setup/install placed unusual stress on it, and that it is unlikely that the design itself needs changing.
