There is nothing new here, these outcomes were predicted and have hashed out time and time again not only in the last century but all the way back to the days of the Roman Empire and various Greek confederacies. In everything government gets involved in where it shouldn't, problems and eventual disaster arise. The federal government has no business telling oil companies where they can and cant drill, how much they can and cant charge, where they can and cant refine, etc etc....just like it has no business trying to run a free/semi-free healthcare system for people.
