bottom (like on our Z32). You can even pre-fill the new filter with oil before screwing it on. (Try that on a sentra, where the oil filter screws on horizontally, and you have to contort your arm to get it behind the engine). Oil changes on my 335i are easy too, although having to replace those little rubber o-rings (2 of them) is a bit annoying. Dropping the filter cartridge in from the top is nice, but when taking the used one out you have to watch not to drip on anything. Plus the old oil tends to pool in the bottom of the cartridge "chamber", and trying to soak it up best you can with rags is really all you can do about that. Lastly my E90 has no dipstick. So to get a semi-reliable level reading you need to warm the car up and drive it a bit before the dash readout will give you a level reading. (and how "accurate" it really is, I have no idea). Overall I'd say a Z32 oil change still trumps an E90 BMW oil change, on easy-ness. (Can't speak for other bimmers, or M-B models).
