Message when you look at viscousity charts for a temperature range, the 0W oils stay within spec much better than the 10W rated oils, especially at 40 deg and above 100 deg. Looking at used oil analysis, the 0W40 Mobil1 stayed much closer to the viscousity specs than even 10W30 Mobil1.

Also, the effects of mechanical shearing breaks down non-syn oils quite a bit faster and the oil will drop out of its viscousity range in a fairly short time, definitely within an oil change period.
